This work pays homage to the modern working relationship between human and horse, recreating the legend of the Aboriginal stockman. For many generations the artist's male relatives have been employed on cattle stations on their country. As a child Ian visited family on the stations, watching the men on horseback with respect and admiration. Most of "traditional" life had died generations ago, but Kurtjar people had stubbornly stayed, working their land on horseback. This devotion to land has paid off. In September 2002 two significant events took place “ the title deeds were received by the Morr Morr Pastoral Company (Delta Downs Station) to mark the repayment of the loan from ATSIC and the Land Rights for Kurtjar Country were handed over to the Kurtjar Aboriginal Corporation for all Kurtjar people.
