STORY
Mob is a term defined as “a large crowd of people, especially one that is disorderly and intent on causing trouble or violence”. It is unsurprising that the Aboriginal definition and use of this word varies wildly from is Western definition.Mob for us is family. It connects us to both people and place. It’s our link to Country and who and where we come from. This painting invites all 95,714 mobs (families) in NSW that currently identify as Aboriginal into NSW parliament for the very first time in history. Parliament hasn’t always been a place of equality for my Aboriginal brothers and sisters, in fact it has been a source of great disrespect and trauma. I dare to dream, I dare to hope that in 2024, this invitation is one that is endorsed by this Parliament and extended to each mob that is represented by each single dot in this painting.
