STORY
Rex Battarbee (1893-1973), an Australian artist, discovered his passion for painting during outback travels. In the 1930s, Battarbee met Albert Namatjira, a Western Arrernte artist, forming a deep bond. Recognizing Namatjira's talent, Battarbee mentored him, sharing watercolour techniques and nurturing his distinctive style. Their unique collaboration bridged cultural divides, helping Namatjira's desert landscapes gain global acclaim. Battarbee's role in promoting Indigenous art and his friendship with Namatjira remain a testament to the transformative power of artistic mentorship.
