STORY
This painting depicts a time in the Tjukurrpa (Dreamtime) when a great bush fire burnt the country. A small circle indicates the place where the fire started. Orange slashes depict areas of trees left by the fire. Sam Tjampitjin was a highly skilled artist and a significant figure in the Balgo community. His works, while differing in detail from the intricate cartographic compositions of artists like Wimmitji or Donkeyman Lee, convey the profound spiritual power of specific sites, much like the works of his elder brother, Sunfly Tjampitjin. Through his paintings, Tjampitjin communicates the deep connection between land and cultural knowledge. His work stands as a testament to the enduring cultural and spiritual connections that underpin his community's relationship with the land.
